I'm from Baltimore and it's certain blocks more so than general areas that are the most dangerous. Some blocks and corners have always been bad like penn north(probably the biggest wide open drug market), sandtown (the wire), greenmount ave, cherry hill projects, park heights, low harford rd around cliffview ave, alot of the projects, belair/erdman, the 4x4, just to name a few well known spots (I'm leaving out many). These are blocks/corners with tons of police 24/7, vacants/food deserts, and ppl pretty much avoid unless you're really in the mix, live there, or buying drugs. Lots of shootings/robberies/open drug corners. Then other areas come and go they will be horrible for a few years until everyone gets locked up/killed and it calms down until the next wave. These are larger areas with homeowners mixed with section 8 housing, less dense and a more mixed crowd, people will go for food, shopping, parks, etc. Some of these are northeast Baltimore around Morgan, notth west liberty heights, east side coldstresm Montebello, south west, etc the suburbs essentially but in the city and each one like example north east Baltimore where it "appears nice" from coldspring/moravia up to northern parkway between belair rd and perring had the highest murder rate for like 3-4 years straight 2017-2021 and before that maybe 2008-2012 and is still no joke. These larger suburbs fluctuate, police push it out eventually and it spreads to a different suburb but yeah any place anytime in Baltimore can be your last if you try to jump in the mix at any level and don't mind your business and keep your head on a swivel. Areas can be pretty but deceptively bad or they can look straight up terrible. If you don't know thr city stick to the prettier areas but still pls be careful, even the county has its rough spots esp the last few years trust me.
